Exercises For Pregnancy - The Secret to a Healthy and Beautiful Pregnancy

There are exercises for pregnancy that will help to keep you in shape as you get ready for the arrival of your new baby. Exercises that limit impact to your joints and ligaments are best to minimize your discomfort and to limit the danger to your unborn child.
When beginning any exercise program it's always best to consult with your obstetrician to make sure that you aren't doing anything that could put your pregnancy at risk. In most normal pregnancies, doctors encourage expectant moms to be as active as possible for the duration of the pregnancy. There are some activities, however that are not advised during pregnancy:
  • Any activity that is done in extreme heat or humidity. This can cause you to lose unhealthy amounts of fluids, which can be detrimental to your baby.
  • Exercises that result in a lot of twisting or crunching in the abdominal area. For obvious reasons, these activities could be uncomfortable for you.
  • Any activity that results in bouncing or jarring of the abdomen. As an example, jogging is not recommended, as you get further along in your pregnancy.
  • Any exercise which results in difficulty breathing. If you can't talk during the exercise, you should probably discontinue until after the baby is born.
Although these are some examples of what you shouldn't do, common sense should rule when engaging in any exercises for pregnancy. If you find during any exercise that you are in a lot of discomfort, then it is advisable to discontinue that exercise until you've had an opportunity to speak with your doctor, or until after the baby is born. Listening to your body will give you a good indication if you are over doing it.
Swimming, yoga and walking are all good examples of exercises that can be done safely during your pregnancy. Not only low impact, they are usually accommodating of your growing belly, which can affect your balance and timing. This way you're limiting the risk of injury to you or your baby.

If you're worried that you won't be able to continue to be active during your pregnancy, you can be assured that exercise is good for both you and the baby. Exercising within reason is encouraged and will help you to maintain a healthy weight that will not only assist in an easier delivery, but also decrease the amount of time to recover after the baby is born. Exercises for pregnancy are a great way to get a head start on getting back to your pre-pregnancy weight.
